In this workshop consisting of two half days, Ken Chitwood and Nadja Danilenko will speak on, discuss, and question the different forms of writing that accompany an early academic career using a hands-on approach. The first workshop day will be dedicated to the (dreaded) process of transforming your thesis into a book, including exercises to practice making your academic writing more accessible to a general audience. The morning will be concluded with a short Q&A session on practical career strategies after your defense. On the second workshop day, we will dive into the world of public scholarship and address questions of platform, style, and content – and then put this newfound knowledge to the test. The workshop will be rounded off with a Q&A on publishing in peer-reviewed journals. In principle, both workshop days will be held online, with the possibility of an in-person format should the COVID-19 related regulations and the participants’ locations allow for this.
