Judge-led reforms? Court judgments about Islamic courts and Muslim family law during the Dutch East Indies
Judge-led reforms? Court judgments about Islamic courts and Muslim family law during the Dutch East Indies
Stijn’s desk includes analyses of legal judgments about the position of Islamic courts and Muslim family law as these were represented in the legal literature of the Netherlands Indies between 1850-1945. In his dissertation Stijn has suggested that in addition to government regulations, court judgments were essential to the development of Islamic courts and the family law they applied. With this research Stijn hopes to shed new light on the history of Islamic courts and Muslim family law in Indonesia and to contribute to the academic debate about the role of court judgments in the development of Muslim family law.
